Mountainhall Greenspace - an urban place for nature, people and learning
Mountainhall Greenspace Community is a community project being developed from the NHS grounds of the Mountainhall treatment centre. The project aims to create a resilient community, with access to nature and creative wellbeing.
Mountainhall Greenspace is an 11acre site that sits behind Mountainhall Treatment Centre, the former main hospital for the town.
NHS D&G are looking across their estates through a ‘climate and sustainability’ lens, and are exploring ways in which Mountainhall Greenspace can be better looked after, and better used as a community asset.
Alongside
DesignHOPES (design research for healthcare) Propagate are supporting NHS D&G to develop this project. We have organised a series of engagement events; including onsite activities, in local community centres and at Mountainhall Treatment Centre.
With the What We Do Now Network, we commissioned - Miranda Bane and Pippa Thomas @ Two Isles creative ecologist and environmental artist - who between December 2024 and April 2025 organised creative and fun ways for the community to get to know Mountainhall. During their time with us they developed the 'Community Panel', a group of community members who will continue to work alongside the NHS in developing this project. You can read their final report below.
The project is currently establishing it's next steps as Community Panel and NHS stakeholder group get to know each other.
Join the mailing list to receive monthly newsletters from this project, and get in touch. There is also an option to join the Community Panel if you wish to be more involved and help steer the future of the project.
Partners and funders for this project include DesignHOPES, and the What We Do Now Network.
